Snowshoe Rabbit

SnowshoeRabbit1-una432725.jpgWe’ve been waiting for another snowfall to share this little guy – a snowshoe rabbit.

Walter J. Breckenridge captured these images of a snowshoe rabbit near the north shore of Lake Superior in the winter of 1927. Breckenridge was then on one of his first large “collecting” trips as the new preparator for the Zoological Museum.

(Breckenridge later became director of the Museum after Thomas Sadler Roberts passed away in 1946, and served until retirement in 1970. There will be more to come on “Breck.” For now, enjoy the snow.)
